Brooklyn Standard now features Micro Brewed Beers, from Rouge River, to Local Winter Stouts. Come check out the selection and pick up some great local organic food from our Vegan Hot Bar.
At Brooklyn Standard we are committed to being responsible to the environment and our neighbors while we do business in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We do it because we know that it makes sense for our community AND our business. But what can you expect as a result of our hard work and planning when you come to the shop? A lecture on sustainability? Scratchy toilet paper made from recycled cardboard? Overpriced organic lettuce that looks like we pulled it from a crack in the sidewalk? Gah- NO!
You might not even notice right away how we do things differently, and that’s ok…
Headed to McGolrick Park for a walk? Power up with a fresh juice from organic and local fruits. Visit our handy curbside window and take your juice to go in your own cup from home or a compostable corn cup. Behind the scenes, the fruit pulp left behind in the shop will be recycled in our backyard composting worm farm. While you’re in the park, look out for us using our homemade compost to feed and beautify neighborhood trees and planting areas!
Waiting for the B48 bus? Stop in for simple cup of coffee and you will find fresh roasted Stumptown Coffee Roasters, made from direct-traded gourmet beans and purchased in bulk straight from coffee-producing families. At the register, you get a 10% discount if you bring your own mug, or purchase an official Brooklyn Standard travel mug. If you didn’t bring your own mug, you can borrow one of ours and have a seat, or take it to-go in a plastic-free biodegradable cup. Our coffee service doesn’t involve plastic stirrers, packets or doohickies, just good old-fashioned milk, sugar and spoons. Ask Maria for the skinny on our wormy employees eating the spent coffee grounds.
Looking to replenish your pantry with the basics and beyond? While you’re in the shop stocking up on toilet paper and batteries, visit our man in the kitchen, Shamus, for the latest from the laboratory. We will be stocking our shelved with deli favorites, but homemade in the store with ingredients that support local vendors and farmers. Run out of cooking oil? Bring your empty bottle in as ask Shamus for a refill…he might surprise you with an herb-infused creation that will jazz up your cooking routine.
And those other bodega basics, like batteries? Bring in your spent batteries and we will make sure they make it to a recycler…um, the toilet paper we can’t help you with.
